Frequently asked

Good to know

How do I manage my board games with MeepleVault?

You stick a QR code on every storage – whether a box, shelf or cupboard – and scan each game's barcode while putting it away. Title, BoardGameGeek data, player count and cover are filled in automatically. So you always know which storage a game is in.

How do I keep track of a large board game collection?

Instead of maintaining a long list, you assign every game to a physical storage. You stick a QR code on each storage – box, shelf or cupboard – scan each game's barcode as you put it away, and MeepleVault remembers which game is in which storage. A quick search shows you the right storage for any title instantly – even with hundreds of games.

How do I find a specific board game in the basement or on a shelf?

You search for the title in MeepleVault and immediately see which storage the game is in. Because every storage carries a unique QR code, you know exactly which box or shelf to grab – no more rummaging and no more “which storage was that in again?”.

Which app is best for organizing and storing board games?

MeepleVault is built for storing and retrieving: unlike pure collection or stats apps, it links every game to a physical, QR-coded storage. That makes it ideal when your collection is spread across several boxes, shelves or moving cartons and you want to find the right game fast. Free for iPhone (iOS 17+) and in the browser.

How does the app know whether a code is storage or a game?

MeepleVault tells them apart automatically by code type: a QR code always means a storage location (box, shelf or cupboard), a classic barcode (EAN/UPC) always means a game. That way the barcode on a game box can never be mistaken for a storage location – no mix-ups. So you create your own QR codes for storage; a regular barcode can't currently be used as a storage location.

Does MeepleVault cost anything?

MeepleVault is free to use. The app works local-first on your iPhone; an account is optional and only unlocks synchronisation between the app and the web collection.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. MeepleVault is local-first: your collection lives on the device and is fully usable without internet. Once you're online and signed in, everything syncs automatically.

Where is my data stored?

Synchronisation runs through our own server at meeplevault.de – not iCloud or third parties. You can export your entire library as JSON at any time. Your data is yours.

Which devices does MeepleVault run on?

There's a native iOS app (iPhone, iOS 17+) for scanning and a web collection in the browser. Both share the same collection through optional synchronisation.

Where does the game data come from?

Game barcodes are resolved to titles and enriched with data from BoardGameGeek: player count, play time and cover image. If a scan finds no game, you can add it manually.
