How to use MeepleVault

Storage locations: boxes, shelves and cabinets

In MeepleVault every storage location is a real, physical place where games sit – a moving box, a shelf compartment or a cabinet. Each location gets its own QR code.

You stick the QR code on the location, scan it with the app and give it a name. From now on, every game you capture after scanning that location lands exactly there.

Create your own QR codes

You generate the QR codes yourself – with any QR generator or a label set. The only thing that matters is that each code is unique: one code per location. Reusing the same code twice would merge two places.

QR code or barcode?

MeepleVault tells them apart automatically by code type: a QR code always addresses a storage location, a classic barcode (EAN/UPC) always a game. That way the barcode on a game box can never accidentally be read as a location. A regular barcode therefore cannot be used as a storage location.

How MeepleVault recognises a game

When putting games away you scan the barcode (EAN/UPC) on the box. MeepleVault resolves the code in several stages:

• Already known? Games you or others have already captured appear instantly from the cache.
• Lookup: otherwise the app queries the MeepleVault service, which maps the barcode to a game title.
• Enrichment: the match is enriched with data from BoardGameGeek – player count, play time and cover image.

You confirm the match and the game is assigned to the current storage location.

When a barcode isn't recognised

Not every box carries a usable EAN code, and some games aren't (yet) listed in the data sources. If the scan finds nothing, you have two options:

• Search by title: type the name – MeepleVault searches the game database and suggests matching hits.
• Add manually: capture the game yourself with a title and optional details. It's assigned to a storage location just like any other.

Once a barcode has been resolved, the service remembers it centrally. Next time – for other users too – the same game is recognised instantly.

Finding games again

Open search and type the title. MeepleVault instantly shows you which storage location the game is in. Because every location carries a unique QR code, you know exactly which box or shelf to grab – even with hundreds of games.

Using it offline and syncing

MeepleVault is local-first: your collection lives on the device and is fully usable without internet. An account is optional and unlocks sync between your devices – via a dedicated server on meeplevault.de, not iCloud or third parties. You can export your entire library as JSON at any time.
